Summary: The MDUSD Teacher Induction and Support Program (TISP) is dedicated to providing quality learning opportunities for every student by supporting educators and enhancing their skills and knowledge. The induction program is designed to provide a two-year, individualized, job-embedded system of mentoring, support and professional learning that begins in the teacher’s first year of teaching. TISP is accredited by the CCTC to recommend candidates for a Clear Credential after successful completion of the two-year process.
At the March 9, 2020 Board meeting, as a expenditure reduction item, 5.0 TISP coaching positions were eliminated leaving 2.0 FTE available to support 1st and 2nd year teachers working towards clearing their credential. Since that time, primarily due to the PARS Retirement Program and COVID related issues, Mt. Diablo has hired over 44 additional first year teachers which requires additional coaching positions to help them clear their credentials and work with the California Teachers Credential Commission to ensure that Mt. Diablo's program is accredited. These coaches also assist administrators providing assistance to experienced teachers who are struggling in meeting the California Standards for the Teaching Profession.
Funding: General Fund
Fiscal Impact Estimate $300,000
