Summary:

Review and Potential Approval of Application for the WE Teachers Program grant. This grant opportunity is being offered in five regions: Alameda County and Contra Costa County, California; Minneapolis, Minnesota; New York, New York; South Chicago, Illinois; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The WE grant will support the critical need for trauma-informed practice education and resources in schools and professional development to student supports. This grant opportunity is being offered in under-served, urban communities to provide support to school districts that need it most, particularly in response to the impact of COVID-19.
The purpose of this grant is to empower schools with the resources to address trauma or other challenges in the classroom. Mt. Diablo Unified School District will work collaboratively with Educational Services, Schools and the Counseling department to expand knowledge and support strategies around trauma-informed practices. The team will work to coordinate professional development and planning and utilize the WE Teachers Introductory Module: Trauma-Informed Classrooms and knowledge and expertise of staff, to provide the framing of trauma and a resource to set up the trauma-informed classroom. Educators will; Learn about what trauma is and how it exists within students and/or the classroom; Explore how to identify trauma within a student; and Discover the general importance of developing a trauma-informed classroom and its benefits. The $25,000 grant will provide resources for planning, professional development, and materials to build staff knowledge and capacity to support students in a trauma-informed classroom and school environment.
