Summary:
Review and Potential Approval of the California Department of Education’s Mini Grant to Address Equity and Opportunity Gaps from the Stuart Foundation. The $20,000 grant is available to schools, districts, and charter schools that can demonstrate how they will address equity and opportunity gaps by utilizing the funds to target educators’ or students’ needs in distance learning, in-person instruction, or hybrid models. Mt. Diablo Unified will use grant funds to develop a systemic mentorship program for high potential and need students and their families in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District, with focused outreach to Homeless, Foster Youth and African American students. Students will be identified by 60% attendance and engagement. The mentorship program will identify a school-based staff person (i.e. teacher, counselor, principal) in partnership with the site-based parent liaison to provide collaborative strategies, services and support to identified families to re-engage students in their learning and be on track for graduation. Ongoing and expanded professional development and coaching to principals and counselors on equity and institutional racism by the Equity Department will build knowledge and capacity to ensure sustainable and aligned systems are developed to support district family needs.

The $20,000 grant will provide funds for staff to provide case management support to identified families and staff to participate in professional development on equity and the mentorship program.
