Summary:
A new job description was created and approved by the Board at the April 27, 2020 meeting. The job included many of the characteristics of two former Director of Technology positions that existed until this spring, and included additional leadership components. When the job description was established, it was not benchmarked at a new salary range and remained at Range 18 ($91,711-111,457). The district previously had a Director of Educational Technology & Innovation, approved at a Range 32 ($107,198-130,292).
This job description and salary placement has been reviewed by legal counsel and now includes additional leadership qualifications and responsibility for distance learning, which has become the new norm and not part of the former job description. The recommendation is to move the salary range to Range 34 ($111,327 to $135,319), from a classified range 18 ($91,711-111,457) and certificated range 32 ($107,198-130,292), which is an increase of approximately $4,000 (classified) or $20,000 (certificated). Note: Reducing the two positions to one position in April resulted in a cost savings of $183,000 (total cost), for a net savings of $163,000 if the new salary range is approved. This position also includes the recommendation for a teaching credential or certificate, and was previously budgeted from General Fund. However, 10% of the position will now be moved to Routine Restricted Maintenance, freeing up approximately $15,000 from General Fund.

Funding:
Routine Restricted Maintenance - .1 FTE
General Fund - .9 FTE

Fiscal Impact:
Continued net savings of $163,000 (after an increase in placement on salary schedule)
