Summary:
|
Mt. Diablo Adult Education (MDAE) requests approval to enter a two-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Loaves and Fishes Contra Costa (LFCC), to provide lunch daily to approximately 20-30 adult students in the Mt. Diablo Adult Education Career Technical Education Center (CTEC) Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Program at the Loma Vista Adult Center (LVAC) renewing a partnership established under an initial MDUSD Board-approved MOU valid from August to November 2019. During the height of the COVID-19 Pandemic March 2020 to present, LFCC and MDAE were compelled to suspend LFCC services, (which had become a critical component of the Healthcare Career Pathway (HCP) MDAE CTEC CNA program at LVAC) for MDAE and CTEC students. This program provides a significant means of support to the low socio-economic Contra Costa County recruits of this MDAE career-pathway established in 2018 by the John Muir Community Health Fund, Opportunity Junction, Ombudsman Services of Contra Costa and Solano (OSCCS) in regional Skilled-Nursing Facilities (SNFs), helping ensure student persistence and program completion. LFCC and MDAE now wish to enter a new two-year MOU from February 7, 2022 to December 31, 2023, ensuring continuation during this period, of Monday-Thursday delivery of hot meals and salads (excepting school holidays and recesses), during a designated lunch period at LVAC for HCP MDAE CTEC CNA Program students as well as all CTEC students. Funding will be provided solely by LFCC grant funds. This partnership between LFCC and MDAE particularly benefits low socio-economic students in the MDAE CTEC CNA program and disabled students of the Adults With Disabilities (AWD) program at LVAC. The CNA students receive the benefits of free meals as they focus on their CNA workforce training. MDAE AWD students benefit from providing set-up, service and clean-up as part of a new job training program. Approval of this MOU ensures continuation of the LFCC meal program throughout the calendar years of 2022 and 2023, and in turn ensures increased food security for students in all CTEC Programs at LVAC. Approval of this MOU, at the same time, also ensures continuation of the new job training program for AWD Program students at LVAC.
