Summary: Ygnacio Valley High School (24 students) and Oak Grove Middle School (4 students) are requesting permission for a total of 28 students and 4 chaperones to travel to San Diego, California on April 24-April 26, 2023. The students will participate in a “Femineers Summit” hosted by San Diego State University. The students and chaperones will travel by bus and stay at a local hotel.

The Femineer Program was originally created to inspire additional females to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) in their education and career. SDSU’s College of Engineering adopted the Femineer® Program Fall 2016. The program provides K-12 students with project-based learning, female engineering student mentors, and opportunities to visit a Femineer® affiliate university, while building a sustainable program and community for current and future STEM leaders.

San Diego State University Femineer Program Summit highlights and celebrates the work and time students dedicated to Femineer and their projects. YVHS students will be showcasing projects from the year-long course “Wearable Technology” (incorporating computer and advanced technology into wearable clothing and accessories. Students learn basic circuitry and C programming and how to use conductive thread, bright neopixels, and wearable microcontrollers) and Oak Grove students will be showcasing their projects from the year long course “Creative Robotics” (students learn basic electronics in a fun and creative way while learning about Safety procedures how to use tools and how to work in teams to design robots out of everyday materials).
