Staff requests approval of the Bay Area Community College Consortium K-12 Strong Workforce Program Agreement between Cabrillo Community College District and Mt. Diablo Unified School District (MDUSD). This contract is the result of MDUSD’s K-12 Strong Workforce Program application approved by the MDUSD Board of Education on March 11, 2019. The intent of the program is to create, support, and/or expand high-quality career technical education programs at the K-12 level that are aligned with the workforce development efforts, and encompasses a collaborative regional approach to increase the transition to post-secondary and career. Under the agreement, MDUSD will work with its community partners and Diablo Valley College to develop a cohorted summer internship program. Target students are those at schools with at least 50% students identified as English Language Learners, low income, or foster youth – Concord High School, Mt. Diablo High School, Ygnacio Valley High School, and Olympic High School. Students will participate in a dual enrolled Career Counseling course and students completing the course will be eligible for paid internships, using K-12 School Wide Program funds. Under the terms of the contract, MDUSD will receive $291,020 to support this program. The term of the agreement is from July 1, 2019 – December 31, 2021. The required match is 2:1 and will be met from district grants (Carl D. Perkins and Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) and Local Control Funding Formula funds.
