Summary:
|
For 2025-2026, Growing Healthy Kids will provide service to approximately 11,280 students through the following: NGSS in the Garden program to 22 elementary schools (an increase of 3 schools); Career Pathways training program at the Ygnacio Valley HS Education Academy; CDFA educational activities at Rio Vista Elementary and Riverview MS in Bay Point in accordance with CDFA grant guidelines; programmatic support including community & family outreach, and school garden installation & infrastructure. Growing Healthy Kids staff will provide training and consultation for any MDUSD school sites seeking outdoor education curriculum or outdoor classroom development and provide training and internships opportunities in partnership with MDUSD Career Pathways. Growing Healthy Kids will continue to support the implementation of garden and nutrition education lessons aligned with NGSS, Common Core and CA Health Standards during the school day at 22 elementary sites (bringing on Bel Air, Hidden Valley, and Highlands as new sites), and maintain outdoor learning gardens and spaces at participating garden education schools. The core program is 24 weeks of garden education taught by a dedicated garden educator at each school. All students at each school from TK-Grade 5 participate in 12 weeks of NGSS in the Garden. For each TK-2 and 3-5 grade block, there are typically 4 lessons in the fall and 4 weeks in the spring focusing on lessons outside in the school garden, and 4 lessons in the winter focusing on hands-on cooking, health and wellness. District funding will support 75% of each site's cost. Sites will fund the other 25% using site funds and/or PTA/PFC funds. |
